A Leap of Faith

My momma always said, “If al your friends jumped of a bridge..?” You know the end of that, right? I thought I did, too. Until, I found myself balanced on the edge of the 141 ft. Kawarau Bridge, in New Zealand, considering my fate.
Two of my friends had just jumped… screaming and laughing. Oh sure… they had bungee cords attached to their feet. Me? Well, I was too scared. Of course, I had really good reasons why I couldn’t do it. I had a bad neck injury and previously broken ribs.
When I told my reasons (ummm. excuses?) to the people that worked there, they smiled and showed me a picture of a 91-year-old woman that had just made the leap and loved it. My excuses felt valid.
But really.. they were just masking my fear. If fear wins, I lose a once-in-a-lifetime chance to jump of the world’s first commercial bungee bridge. If faith wins, I defeat my fears and take a step of faith!
Fear has often tried to keep me from some of my biggest successes. When I was offered the chance to host my own tv show. I said “No.” THREE times! Until, I heard God whisper, Are you really going to waste this opportunity I’ve given you?” (GULP) “Um, no sir.” Gotta step out. (Three years in, and we just won the NRB People’s Choice Award!)
That FIRST step is always the hardest.but oh, SO worth it! Surround yourself with people that see what’s possible for you. Listen to that voice on the inside, telling you who you’re called to be. DON’T listen to those who’ve never done what you want to do. And most of all… don’t let a 91-year-old have more fun than you! You can do it.
Jump, baby. jump!
